Wednesday 7:25am. Showers and a few thundershowers developed yesterday evening as expected ahead of a low pressure system which slowly crossed northern NB. This low is now located just north of PEI with the cold front swinging back across central NB at this hour. The front should cross the island before noon. High pressure will build in behind the front this evening and remain over the region until Monday when another frontal trough will approach. The only question will be on Thursday afternoon/evening when a upper system swings through. This system may set off a few showers or thundershowers, otherwise sunny,seasonal temperatures and low humidities expected.
Precipitation. More precipitation fell across western PEI from this latest system which seems to be the case over the past month or so. Showers began in the Charlottetown area about 9:30pm and continued through the night with thundershowers observed at my location on New Haven around 1:00am. I recorded 5.6mms as of 6am today from last night’s rainfall. Chance of showers this morning with the frontal passage ending by noon. Chance of showers again Thursday afternoon/evening then again beginning on Monday.
Thunderstorms. A few thundershowers occurred during the overnight hours and I was woken up around 1am by thunder here in the New Haven area. Chance of thundershowers again Thursday afternoon/evening.
Wind.. Light southwest winds this morning will shift to the northwest near noon as the cold front passes then shift to southwesterly on Saturday as the ridge of high pressure shifts east of the Maritimes. These southwest winds will shift back to the northwest on Monday as the next front crosses.
Temperatures.. Cooler today through Friday with a warming trend beginning on Saturday.
