Thursday 5:45pm.. A ridge of high pressure slipped east of the Island today and will continue to move off to the east, meanwhile a cold front approaching from the west will cross the island during the overnight hours tonight resulting in a chance of a shower or thundershower. This front moves off to the east tomorrow bringing a return to mainly sunny skies and a cooler northerly wind. High pressure builds in again for the weekend promising more sunshine. A couple of cold fronts will cross the region on Tuesday then again on Thursday with a chance of showers and thundershowers. Otherwise sunny dry weather expected.
Precipitation.. Chance of showers tonight beginning after midnight then again on Tuesday and Thursday. At this time only slight amount s expected.
Thunderstorms.. Slight chance tonight then again on Tuesday.
Wind.. Southwest winds will veer to northwest tomorrow morning with the frontal passage. Northerly winds continue on Saturday shifting to southerly on Sunday as the ridge line moves east. These southwest winds will once again shift to the northwest Tuesday evening as the cold front crosses.
Temperatures.. A little cooler tomorrow and Saturday becoming warmer on Sunday and Monday then cooler again on Tuesday.
Tropics.. Tropical Storm Issac is located south of PUERTO RICO this afternoon with max winds of 40 MPH. The storm is expected to gain hurricane status as is pass just south of Haiti then across Cuba toward the Florida Keys with a landfall Tuesday evening on the Florida panhandle. This system will need to be watched for its remnants moving into the Maritimes later next week as a rain event. A second tropical system “Joyce” has developed farther east and is moving northwest in the open Atlantic. At this time the system is expected to remain over open water while curving northeast near Bermuda on Tuesday morning.
