A taste of Fall across PEI tomorrow…

Tuesday 5:50pm  A northeast-southwest oriented cold front  approaching PEI from the west will cross the Island over the next few hours with showers and thundershowers. High pressure will build in from the west tomorrow but an area of instability will cross the Gulf on Thursday with another chance of showers and thundershowers. Another cold front will sweep across the Maritimes late Friday into Saturday with more showers and thundershowers. High pressure returns for Sunday through Tuesday.

Precipitation.. Showers will come to an end from west to east across the Island this evening with 5-10 mms possible. Showers expected again on Wednesday and Thursday then again Friday and Saturday.

Thunderstorms.. Chance of thundershowers this evening, then again on Thursday through Saturday.

Wind.. Brisk southwest winds will shift to northwest over then next few hours as the cold front crosses the island. Light/brisk west/northwest winds continue through late Thursday when a brief shift to the south occurs. Wind will shift back to the northwest Friday evening and persist through Saturday and Sunday. A shift back to the southwest will occur on Monday as the high pressure system moves east.

Temperatures.. A taste of fall tomorrow with highs near 17. Back to seasonal on Thursday. Warm on Friday then cool again on Saturday and Sunday. Warming up for Monday.

Tropical storms.. Hurricane Isaac is located just south of the mouth of the Mississippi River this afternoon with max sustained winds of 75 MPH. The storm is moving northwest then expected to weaken quickly as it moves inland. The biggest threat with this storm appears to be flooding caused by rainfall and coastal storm surge. Once the storm moves inland the track is expected to become more northerly towards the Great Lakes then turn eastward towards the Atlantic Ocean passing south of the Maritimes on Monday/Tuesday of next week.
