Wednesday 8:20am A deepening trough of low pressure oriented north-south is sliding across Maine this morning and is expected to stall over NS by this evening. Rain, wind, and a few thundershowers will develop ahead of this trough across the region. High pressure will build into extreme western areas of NB where skies are expected to clear. The trough will linger across central and eastern areas of the Maritimes through Friday then begin to retrograde back westward for the weekend resulting in a prolonged period of cloudy wet weather weather for the area. Difficult to get a clear picture for the long range with another low pressure system coming out of the Great Lakes.
Precipitation.. Rain has already moved in central and western NB this morning and will continue to move east spreading into western PEI by early this afternoon then across the remainder of the Island. The remainder of the week looks unsettled as the trough lingers over the region. Rainfall amounts through the end of the week will be difficult to nail down due to the nature of this system. (A narrow band of rain) but amounts could be 50 mms or more. Will have a better idea once the trough stalls. Just determining where is the big question.
Thunderstorms. Chance of a thundershowers later this afternoon and evening.
Wind.. Will will increase to become strong southerly near noon today then slow diminish by this evening. winds winds will shift to northerly behind the trough during the overnight hours. Light/brisk northeast winds will continue tomorrow then shift back to southeasterly on the weekend.
Temperatures.. warm today then much cooler tomorrow returning to slightly above normal through the remainder of the forecast period.
