More showers expected later today across PEI

Monday 8:00am.. A developing low pressure system currently well south of the Maritimes is tracking north towards Newfoundland. This system is now expected to deepen further and track a little farther west than previously though yesterday, hence rainfall amounts are heavier. An area of high pressure will pass south of the region on Tuesday and Wednesday then another cold front will cross the region on Thursday with high pressure returning for Friday. The weekend is still questionable but am leaning toward a clouds. Watching a potential coastal storm developing during the first couple days of October. Will have more details on this in upcoming posts.

Precipitation.. Models are not in agreement with potential rainfall amounts for PEI tonight and tomorrow although eastern Kings county will see the most with 15-20 mms, 10 mms for Queens, and less than 5 for Prince. Rain should begin early this evening ending before dawn tomorrow. Showers will begin again early Thursday morning ending by evening with about 5 mms expected.

Wind.. Light northwesterly today becoming northeasterly as the Newfoundland low tracks by tonight then shifting back to northwesterly tomorrow. Winds increasing to brisk southwesterly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday early Thursday becoming northwesterly later Thursday behind the cold front. Northerly winds on Friday shifting to easterly on Saturday.

Thunderstorms. Nil expected through the period.

Temperatures.. At or above normal through early Thursday dipping to slightly below normal Friday and Saturday.

Forecast..

Today.. Sunny becoming cloudy near noon with showers developing by late this afternoon. Light northwesterly becoming northeasterly later today with highs near 17.

Tonight.. Rain ending before dawn (5-20 mms), light northwest winds, lows 8

Tuesday.. Sunny, increasing southwest winds, highs 17

Wednesday.. Sunny becoming cloudy in the afternoon, showers possible by late evening, brisk southwest winds, highs 18

Thursday.. Cloudy with showers ending then clearing, brisk southwest winds shifting to northwesterly, highs near 17 in the morning then falling during the day.

Friday.. Sunny, light north winds, highs 14

Saturday.. Cloudy, light east winds, highs 15
