Steady Rain should end near noon followed by a few lingering showers across PEI

Monday 6:30am.. A low pressure system approaching from the south will race northeastward to be located over NFLD by this afternoon, meanwhile an area of high pressure will build in over the region briefly tonight then another coastal low pressure system will track northeastward along the east coast of NS later tomorrow bringing rains to the eastern half of PEI. High pressure briefly returns for Wednesday then a strong trough of low pressure will swing through the Maritimes on Thursday with showers and strong winds. Another upper trough will slide across the area on Friday bringing in the coldest temperatures of the season. Flurries are possible during the colder evening/overnight hours beginning Friday.

Precipitation.. Rain should come to an end near noon today with total mounts in the 10 mm range. Showers may redevelop again this afternoon as cooler unstable air invades the region. Maybe even a waterspout/cold air funnel over the waters of the Gulf/Strait later today. Showers for eastern half of PEI expected late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning ending Wednesday afternoon. 5-10 mms possible with this system. Showers again on Thursday associated with the trough then again on Friday. Hit and miss showers/flurries on Saturday then more showers for Sunday and Monday.

Wind.. Light southeast winds this morning will shift to brisk northwesterly near noon today. Light and variable on Tuesday increasing to brisk easterly on Wednesday. Brisk/strong westerlies expected on Thursday,Friday and Saturday shifting to southerly on Sunday.

Temperatures.. Slightly below normal for today and tomorrow warmimg up to above normal on Wednesday then cold for Thursday through Sunday. Warmer on Monday.

Today.. Rain ending near noon today giving near 10 mms. Partial clearing then possible showers later this afternoon/evening, Brusk northwest winds developing with highs near 12.

Tonight.. Mainly clear, light/calm winds, lows near 4 but near 0 in low lying areas giving frost.

Tuesday.. Mostly cloudy, light east winds, highs 11

Wednesday.. Cloudy with showers, brisk east winds, highs 14

Thursday.. Showers and windy, Temperatures falling throughout the day,

Friday.. showers and windy, highs 9

Saturday.. Cloudy periods, chance of showers (flurrries evening/overnight), highs 6

Sunday.. Cloudy with showers, highs 10

Monday.. Showers, 17
