Friday 5:125pm.. A cold front is currently crossing the Maritimes and will be east of the region tomorrow. Weak cold high pressure will build in behind this front tomorrow but the airmass will be unstable and expect showers/ice pellets or flurries. A warm front will begin to lift north across the region on Sunday bring a return to cloud and showers. Periods of rain will develop on Monday as a low pressure system rides the warm front eastward passing north of the Maritimes but this will spawn secondary low pressure in the Gulf of Maine on Tuesday bringing a potential heavy rain event and wind. High pressure returns for later in the week.
Precipitation...12.6 mms rain in my gauge as on 5:00pm from the latest system. Rain will taper to showers this evening but continue overnight as the cold unstable airmass floods in. These showers may become mixed with ice pellets/flurries tonight and into tomorrow coming to an end during the late afternoon. Rain will start again Sunday morning and continue through early Wednesday morning. Although the models are not agreeing on timing, they are agreeing on significant rainfall for Tuesday/Wednesday time frame with 50-80 mms possible. Future model runs should clarify the timing and rainfall amounts but for now a possible significant rain event.
Wind.. Brisk northwest winds tonight becoming westerly tomorrow afternoon then southwest on Sunday.Light/brisk south winds expected on Monday and Tuesday shifting to strong northwesterly Tuesday night into Wednesday. Brisk west winds continue into Thursday.
Temperatures. Below normal tonight through Sunday afternoon becoming well above normal for Sunday night through Tuesday then cooling down to normal on Wednesday.
