Tuesday 5:30pm.. A large area of high pressure located over southern Quebec will slowly build across the Maritimes over the next few days. Brisk northwest winds ahead of the high will maintain cloud and a chance of showers especially eastern areas for the next day or so. The high will crest over the area on Friday allowing the winds to become more northeasterly. The remnants of Tropical storm Sandy will be moving up the coast during the early part of next week. Models are having a difficult time agreeing with one of the more reliable models bringing the storm into Long Island while other are keeping it well off shore. Hopefully they will come to a consensuses over the next day or so. This could be a very significant storm for the mid Atlantic states and will need watching..
Precipitation.. Chance of an isolated shower over the next couple days. Rain expected for the beginning of next week but will all depend on the eventual track of ‘Sandy”
Wind.. Light/brisk northwest wind will continue through Thursday becoming more northerly on Friday then northeast on Saturday. Increasing northeast winds on Sunday and Monday ahead of the next system.
Tropical storm.. Tropical storm “Sandy” is located about 425 kms south of Jamaica this afternoon with max sustained winds of 85 KMH. Sandy is moving north and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday morning just prior to making landfall on Jamaica. The storm will continue northward up the western Atlantic with much uncertainty in its track. A more reliable model has the storm making landfall on Long Island Tuesday morning. Other models are keeping the system well out in the Atlantic. Interests up and down the eastern seaboard from New York to NFLD need to monitor the progress of this storm.
Temperatures. Are expected to remain below normal through Thursday returning to normal on Friday through Sunday.
