Generally quiet next couple day across PEI. Possible snow event Sunday.

Thursday January 5th 6:00pm.. The low pressure system that came up the coast and tracked northward through NB and is now located along the mid Labrador coast. Cooler air has now invaded the region on Brisk-strong SW-W winds. Another low pressure system will move up the coast tomorrow but this system is expected to remain further offshore passing SE of NS late tomorrow afternoon then into the Avalon Penn of Newfoundland Saturday Morning. The bulk of the snow from this system is expected to fall over eastern NS/offshore but overcast skies and maybe some very light intmt snow may occur over eastern PEI. High pressure builds in for Saturday then yet another storm system will be moving up the coast on Saturday night passing SE of NS early Sunday morning. This system looks like it will move closer to the coast so expecting more snowfall for PEI especially eastern Kings county which will be closest to the storm. Brisk NNE winds will also accompany this system resulting in some blowing and drifting snow. So right now Saturday night into Sunday morning not looking the best with a potential snow event for Queens and Kings counties. Cold High pressure builds in for Monday. A quick moving clipper type low pressure system will then track across the region Monday night into Tuesday morning with some light snow. Clearing skies on Tuesday as high pressure returns. Long range models are hinting at rain for Wednesday as a Great Lakes low pressure system tracks by to the north.

Precipitation.. Few flurries developing overnight and continuing into tomorrow ending Friday night. Flurries a little more extensive over eastern PEI giving 1-2 cms. Basically dry for Saturday but snow develops near midnight Saturday night tapering to flurries Sunday evening. Snowfall amounts should range from 5-10 cms Prince county, 10-15 cms Queens, 15-20 cms Kings. If the expected storm track shifts either east or west then snowfall amounts will shift accordingly. Flurries or light snow Monday night into early Tuesday as the clipper goes by then snow/rain Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Temperatures.. Normal tonight and tomorrow. Slight below normal for Saturday through Tuesday. Mild on Wednesday.

Wind.. Brisk-strong SW-W winds this evening should diminish after midnight. Light SW winds tomorrow shifting to NW by late afternoon. NW winds continue on Saturday shifting to NE on Sunday.

Hazards.. Generally quiet with Flurries developing tonight. Light snow tomorrow. The important item will be the potential of a snow event for Saturday night into Sunday accompanied by blowing/drifting snow.

Watches/warnings.. None for PEI at this time but possible snowfall watches/warnings maybe issued soon for the potential Snow event for Saturday night into Sunday.
