Light snow expected today across PEI..

Monday February 20th 8:25am.. An upper air disturbance currently north of Gaspe Bay is drifting SE and will cross the region today. Cloud and some light snow is expected with this feature. A ridge of high pressure oriented north-south is stretching all the way from Hudson’s bay to Florida. This feature is also drifting eastward and will crest across the island tomorrow afternoon. Sunshine and light winds expected with this feature. A weak occluded front is then expected to move into the Maritimes late Tuesday into early Wednesday with some cloud and chance of flurries. Another low pressure system will track across the northern Gulf late Thursday into early Friday bringing mild air and rain to the island. High pressure crests over the island later Friday then all eyes then shift to the west as a large area of low pressure comes out of the Great Lakes Saturday morning. This system is expected to track NE  passing through Quebec/Labrador on Sunday. This means a significant push of warm air across the Maritimes along with some rain which when combined with snow melt may cause water issues for some areas. Colder air returns Sunday evening with the passage of a cold front which will then mean a freeze of any left over water. Long range models are hinting at a possible noreaster for the last day of February (Tuesday night) but only one model brings it into the Maritimes. The other models are keeping it well south with no impact. Will watch this over the upcoming  days. Should be interesting how it is handled.

Precipitation..Flurries or light snow today giving 1-2 cms ending this evening. Flurries possible late Tuesday then showers late Wednesday into Thursday . Rain on Sunday.

Temperatures.. Normal today and tomorrow. Above normal Wednesday through Sunday.

Wind.. Light-brisk NW/N today and tomorrow shifting to southerly for Wednesday and Thursday then back to westerly on Friday.

Hazards.. Light snow today giving a light dusting on the roads especially rural areas. Possible rain event on Saturday night into Sunday which could cause some local flooding especially when combined with snow melt as temps climb into the 8/10 range. Good chance to prepare over the next few days by clearing away water catch basins and down spouts/spillways around your house.

Watches/warnings. None for PEI at this time.
