Friday May 12 8:45am.. The low pressure system that has plagued the Maritimes for the past week has finally drifted away to the SE. Skies are now beginning to clear as high pressure builds in from the NW. This feature is expected to crest over PEI Saturday evening. Things then begin to get really interesting.. A low pressure system is expected to along the US mid Atlantic coast Saturday morning and intensify as it moves NE towards the Maritimes. The various models are have not been consistent with each other nor have then been consistent from individual run to run. This results in low confidence in any of the model guidance right now. What we do know is that low pressure will track up the coast Saturday night moving across or just south of Cape Cod Sunday morning near breakfast then move slowly eastward passing south of NS on Monday and Tuesday bringing another significant rainfall threat for come areas of the region. We just don’t know yet where and how much yet. As mentioned, the low will pull away to the east later Tuesday. Wednesday is looking good with a ridge of high pressure crossing the area then clouds and showers possible on Thursday as a frontal system moves through.
Precipitation... I think the rains have finally ended for now. Between 100-120mm of rain has been recorded across PEI since May 1st. Today and Tomorrow look dry then brace for more rains as precipitation is expected to spread across PEI during the overnight hours Sunday night into Monday morning, Should have details on amounts over the next few days but could be significant. Wednesday looks dry then a few showers possible on Thursday.
Temperatures..Slightly below normal today becoming slightly above normal for tomorrow and Sunday. Below normal again for Monday and Tuesday then looks like a pronounced warm-up for Wednesday and Thursday.
Wind..Light NNE today and tomorrow dropping off to calm tomorrow night. Winds then become light SE by dawn on Sunday increasing to brisk ESE-E by Sunday evening into Monday morning shifting to northerlies Tuesday afternoon.
Hazards.. Sunburn :-).
