Wednesday May 24th 7:15am.. A weak area of low pressure is located over the northern half of the Maritimes this morning and will drift off to the east today, meanwhile a ridge of high pressure oriented north-south stretched through Maine. This feature will also drift east ward today cresting over the island tomorrow. All interests then shift to the US mid Atlantic coast as a low pressure system approaches from the Great Lakes on Friday. This system will spawn coastal low development neat NYC Thursday night. This new then becomes the primary storm system which then moves ENE passing just south of NS Friday night/early Saturday morning, The low then moves east passing south of Newfoundland Saturday night.. Wind and significant rain will accompany this system. High pressure builds in for Saturday night through Sunday with clearing skies. Another area of low pressure approaches from the Great Lakes on Monday/Tuesday.
Precipitation.. Dry for today and tomorrow. Rain should begin around noon on Friday tapering to showers after midnight giving amounts in the 25-35 mm range across PEI. Showers should end Saturday afternoon. Dry for Saturday evening in to Sunday followed by more showers for Monday and Tuesday.
Temperatures..Normal today and Tomorrow. Cool on Friday and Saturday, normal again on Sunday followed by another cool day on Monday.
Wind... Very light westerlies now will become light NE this afternoon which will continue into tomorrow. NE winds increase to become brisk for Friday and Saturday dropping off to calm Saturday night then shifting to southerlies on Sunday.
Hazards.. The highest tides of the month will occur this weekend and combined with the NE winds may result in higher than normal water levels especially along the north shore.
