Damp and muggy conditions expected today across PEI..

Sunday July 2nd, 9:00am..  A warm front oriented East-west is currently located just north of PEI this morning as is responsible for all the rain. This front is lifting very slowly northward which should being an end to the rain over the next hour or 2, meanwhile the associated cold front is oriented in a North-south fashion and is located in Maine. This cold front will sweep across the Maritimes today crossing PEI early this evening. Some cloud and a slight chance of a shower may accompany this frontal passage. A second cold front now back through Ontario will move through Monday night into Tuesday morning with a slight chance of an associated shower. The passage of this second front marks the beginning if a few days of sunny dry weather as high pressure crosses the region. High clouds will begin to spread across the island Thursday evening as a warm front begins to approach. Rain spreads across the region on Friday as a low pressure system ripples east along the frontal boundary. Clearing on Saturday with the passage of the cold front.

Precipitation.. The heaviest rains fell across the eastern half if the island over the past 24 hours. Here in the New Haven area, I recorded 14.4 mms from 8 am yesterday til 8 am this morning. Quite a bit less up west with only 1.0 mm recorded in the Summerside area. The rain should end before noon today. A few showers possible tonight and again tomorrow night associated with 2 cold frontal passages. Dry conditions then expected Tuesday through Thursday. Long range models are indicating rain by noon on Friday ending near noon on Saturday.

Temperatures.. Basically at or above normal throughout although Friday could be a little cool with the rain.

Wind.. Light south winds will become SW with the first frontal passage tonight then westerly on Tuesday morning after the 2nd frontal passage. Very light winds on Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds begin to pick-up on Thursday and continue through Friday shifting to westerly on Saturday behind the cold front.

Thunderstorms.. Slight chance of a rumble down east til noon, then again for all areas later today ahead of the cold front.

Hazards.. Wet driving conditions in rain.

Watches/warnings.. None for PEI at this time..

CBMF..… In the long range but models are hinting at lots of rain on Friday, dry for Saturday then a few showers on Sunday. Light-brisk SW winds on Friday, light NW winds on Saturday, light westerly on Sunday. Temps cool on Friday and Sunday, warm and muggy in between on Saturday.

Maggies trip... Rainy and breezy for the boat ride on Friday. Rain should end by noon on Saturday then sunny. Cloudy periods and chance of a shower on Sunday with light winds for the boat ride back. Temps in the 18-20 degree range. I must stress that this is in the long range window and will change.
