Saturday July 8th 8:45am.. A low pressure system developed near NYC yesterday and tracked NE and is now located just off the southern tip of NS. The track of this system is a bit further east hence the heaviest rainfall has occurred on NS. Here on PEI generally less than 5 mms rain has fallen so far. The weak low pressure system will track NE along the coast of NS today, meanwhile a slow moving cold front currently located NE-SW through Gaspe BAY is expected to drift SE today crossing the island late tonight with showers/thundershowers. A second cold front will approach and cross the island on Monday afternoon with possible showers/thundershowers. Yet another cold front, this time much stronger, is expected to sweep across the island Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with another round of rain. Sunshine expected later Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure dominates. Rain spreads across the region on Friday as the next low pressure system arrives.
Precipitation.. As already mentioned, the bulk of the rain fell across NS where 10-15 mms has been recorded, Here on PEI generally less then 5 mms. Any showers should end before noon today. Showers should redevelop later this evening as the cold front approaches ending tomorrow afternoon. Another round of showers possible on Monday afternoon as that 2nd cold front sweeps through. Long range models are hinting at yet a 3rd round of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Dry for Thursday then more rain on Friday.
