Clouds and chance of showers today across PEI. Wet and windy later tomorrow.

Saturday, October 14th, 9:00am.. The area of high pressure that gave the sunshine to the region over the last few days has shifted eastward is now centered south of Newfoundland.  Clouds have invaded the island ahead of a frontal boundary which will stall over the region tonight. Showers are associated with this frontal boundary. A “Colorado” Low has developed SW of the Great Lakes and will intensify as it tracks NE and is expected to pass along the St Lawrence River Valley. This first Fall storm should be located near Gaspe Bay early Monday morning. The associated cold front will then sweep across the sweep across the island near noon on Monday.. Strong SW winds will develop tomorrow ahead of the low and front later Sunday and into Monday morning.  Showers should end Monday afternoon with the frontal passage but much cooler air will also invade the region. Clouds should hang around though Monday and Tuesday as the cold air moves over the warmer waters of the Gulf. Few showers again on Wednesday as an upper air disturbance moves through. High pressure slides off the east coast on Thursday setting up a SW flow of warmer air for the weekend.

Precipitation. Few showers expected today and tomorrow and into Monday. The heaviest rains will occur Sunday night through Monday morning as the strong cold front moves through. The rain will be convective in type giving variable amounts but looks like 5-10 mms. Showers again on Wednesday then dry through the weekend.
