Thursday, May 10th 6:00am.. The area of high pressure that gave the sunshine to the island over the past few days has shifted east and is now located over Newfoundland. A small low pressure system developed off the US mid Atlantic coast yesterday and is moving NE. This system is now located just SE of Cape Cod and will continue to move NE pushing into southern NS early this afternoon. This is weakening and should dissipate as it moves into the Maritimes. At the same time, a strong cold front will be approaching from the west and will merge with or absorb the low pressure system over southern NS late tomorrow. Clouds will spread across the island this morning as the low approaches from Cape Cod with showers developing later this afternoon. Cloud and showers will then continue overnight into tomorrow as the cold front approaches. Clearing skies expected to begin about noon tomorrow as the cold front shifts east and high pressure builds in. A frontal system will then approach the southern NS on Saturday then stall oriented in an east-west fashion just south of NS. Low pressure will then ripple eastward along this stalled frontal system tracking just south of the region on Sunday. This could bring some cloud to the island but not expecting any rain. High pressure should then dominate the region Monday through Wednesday with sunshine but a quick moving system may spoil the party with some cloud MOnday night into Tuesday morning.
Precipitation.. Showers develop this afternoon as the low approaches then continue tonight as the front approaches ending tomorrow morning. Dry conditions then expected through Wednesday night.
Temperatures.. At or above normal today through Wednesday. A cool down on Thursday.
Wind.. Light-brisk SE winds develop today as the low approaches shifting to brisk SW after midnight tonight as the cold front approaches.
