Saturday, May 12 7:15am.. An area of high pressure centered near Boston this morning will continue to drift eastward today passing just south of NS during the afternoon. Some clouds will begin to spread across the region this evening as a weakening cold front approaches. This front will almost completely fall apart as it crosses the island during overnight hours tonight so not expecting any rain. The area of high pressure then rebuilds itself over the region for tomorrow and most of Monday with sunshine and light winds. Another cold front will approach from the NW late Monday with some cloud and overnight showers. Yet another cold front sweeps across the island Tuesday night with another round of cloud and showers. High pressure crests over the region on Wednesday with sunshine and light winds. The long range outlook into mid/late week is very uncertain as the models are quite far apart. There does appear to be another frontal system crossing the region with an associated low pressure system ripple eastward along the front passing through the Gulf of St Lawrence on Thursday, but again the models are all over the place so will need to wait for more consistency to get a better idea of mid/late next week.
Precipitation.. Fairly dry ahead with chance of showers for Monday night, Tuesday night and again Wednesday night into Thursday.
Temperatures… Should stay slightly below normal today then warm-up to normal tomorrow. Temps then climb well above normal for Monday and Tuesday. Back to below normal for Wednesday and Thursday.
Wind.. Will increase to light-brisk W-SW today then shift to NW overnight tonight behind the weak cold front. Winds will be shifting back and forth from SW to W-NW as the next few cold front move through.
Thunderstorms.. Don’t really see any really chance. Could be a rumble associated with the cold front but will all depend on timing. As the fronts are expected to move through during the overnight hours, the chances of a rumble are low.
Hazards.. Rather quiet. Wet driving conditions in any showers.
Watches/warnings.. None for PEI at this time.
