Sunshine today, rain tonight/tomorrow across PEI..

Saturday, May 19th 8:30am.. An area of high pressure drifted eastward across the Maritimes overnight and is now located just east of NS. Clear skies accompanied this feature but clouds will be on the increase today as a low pressure system currently located in the Great Lakes approaches. This system will actually pass west of the region and into southern Labrador tomorrow afternoon. Rain from this system will spread across the island before dawn tomorrow as the low approaches. A cold front extending southwestward from the low will sweep across the island Late tomorrow afternoon bringing an end to the rain and an abrupt wind shift to the NW. Cool unstable air over the region on Monday may result in some afternoon cloudiness and a possible isolated shower or two. High pressure crests over the region early Tuesday with sunshine but clouds will once again be on the increase later Tuesday as a frontal system approaches with rain developing Wednesday. Cold air invades the region on Thursday behind this departing system with a chance of showers in the unstable air. Another area of low pressure then races across the Maritimes on Friday with more cloud and showers.

Precipitation.. Rain begins during overnight hours tonight ending late tomorrow afternoon giving 15-20 mms.  Chance of showers on Monday. Tuesday dry, Showers again on Wednesday. Chance of showers on Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures...At or above normal today and tomorrow but cooler air will return later tomorrow with the cold frontal passage (wind shift to the north). At or above normal for Tuesday and Wednesday. Down right ‘cold” on Thursday then above normal conditions return on Friday and persist through the weekend.

Wind.. Brisk SW winds today, tonight into tomorrow but will shift to the NW later tomorrow afternoon. These NW winds will continue into Monday shifting to the SW on Tuesday.
