Tuesday, May 22nd 6:45am.. Clear skies and calm wind this morning as an area of high pressure crested over the island. This feature will drift off to the SE over the next few hours, Clouds will begin to invade this evening as a frontal system oriented NE-SW across the St Lawrence River Valley begins to approach. This front will be located across northern western NB during the overnight hours tonight then sweeping across PEI early tomorrow afternoon. Cloud and rain will accompany this feature but more importantly, there will be a wind shift to the north and temps will plummet making for a very chilly Thursday as high pressure briefly builds in. Clouds will return Thursday evening as a warm front approaches with rain developing before dawn on Friday morning. A frontal system remains draped across the region through Saturday maintaining cloud and showers activity. Sunshine returns on Sunday and Monday with high pressure in control then more cloud and showers on Tuesday.
Precipitation.. Showers should spread into western PEI during the overnight hours tonight then across Charlottetown area near dawn ending tomorrow evening giving about 5 mms. Dry for Thursday then more rain begins Thursday night/early Friday morning and continues through Saturday afternoon. Sunday and Monday looking dry.
Temperatures.. Normal today.. Tomorrow never really warms up from the overnight and high temperature will occur about noon near 10 then the frontal passage (wind shift to the north) near noon will result in temperatures falling to +5 by suppertime. Thursday stays cold with highs only near 8. Friday, Saturday and Sunday stays well below normal then finally a warm up for beginning of next week.
Wind.. Light south winds today increasing to brisk tonight into tomorrow morning then shifting to the north near noon tomorrow (Frontal passage). Light north winds continue through Thursday shifting back to the SW on Friday then back to the north again on Saturday
Hazards.. Wet driving conditions tomorrow. Cold again Thursday morning but I think it will be too windy for frost.
