Sunshine and warm conditions expected next couple days across PEI..

Thursday, May 31st 7:15am..  Last day of May and it’s going to feel like summer… Finally. An area f high pressure centered just south of NS this morning will continue to give sunshine to the region today. The southerly flow around this feature will usher in the warmest air of the season today with expected high temps in the mid 20’s across PEI today and tomorrow. Skies will begin to cloud over later tomorrow as a cold front approaches from the west with showers developing after midnight. Tropical moisture from from “Alberto” is expected to get absorbed by this front which may lead to heavy rain showers at times. This front sweeps across the island by dawn on Saturday bringing an end to the summer-like temperatures for a while. An area of high pressure then builds in over the region for Sunday and Monday with cool sunshine. An ocean storm will develop near Cape Hatteras Sunday morning and begin to move NE  passing just south of NS on Tuesday. The models are all disagreeing on the track (How close will this system get to the Maritimes) with its associated cloud and rain. For now,  keeping the rain over NS for Tuesday but will need to watch this as new data becomes available. At any rate,  A trough of low pressure will then become stalled over the Maritimes Wednesday and Thursday maintaining cloud and chance of showers. So Enjoy the sunshine and heat today and tomorrow. Sunny but cool for the later Saturday into Sunday/Monday then cool and unsettled for Tuesday through Thursday.

Precipitation… Showers at times heavy begin late tomorrow evening (midnight) ending near dawn Saturday morning. There could be a stray shower til noon. Rainfall amounts could vary depending in the tropical moisture but 5-10 mms locally 15-20 in heavy downpours. Dry for later Saturday through Monday. Need to watch that ocean storm for possible rain on Tuesday. Chance of showers on Wednesday Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures.. Summer-like today and tomorrow. Cool-down begins on Saturday in the wake of that cold front. This cool air will then continue all week with below normal temperatures expected through at least next weekend. So enjoy the heat today and tomorrow !!

Wind...Light SW winds today tonight and tomorrow shifting to northerly near dawn Saturday morning (marking the arrival of the cold air and cold frontal passage). Brisk north winds continue through Saturday dropping off to light-brisk north on Sunday. Basically a light-brisk NE wind expected all next week hence the below normal expected temperatures with the wind off the cold Gulf.

Thunderstorms.. Chance of thunderstorms with the cold front Friday night into early Saturday morning.

Hazards.. Wet driving conditions in rain Friday night. Could be heavy at times.
