Rather cool weekend ahead for PEI..

Saturday, June 2nd 9:00am.. A cold front oriented NE-SW is currently moving across NB and will sweep across PEI over the next few hours. Clouds and showers will continues through the day associated with the frontal passage. Winds will shift to the north in the wake of the front accompanied by a temperatures drop. High pressure will begin to build in tonight and should crest over the island later tomorrow. Things then get a bit interesting.. A couple of low pressure systems will develop early Monday and move toward the Maritimes. The first will be an ocean storm which develops off Cape Hatteras. This system will move NE passing just south of NS on Tuesday. The rain associated with this system should remain just south of NS. The 2nd system develops over the lower Great Lakes late Tuesday and tracks eastward moving off the coast near Cape Cod Wednesday morning. These 2 systems then merge together on Thursday. Rain should spread across the island during the day on Wednesday and continue through Thursday as the systems departs south of Newfoundland. A ridge of high pressure crosses the area on Friday with sunshine.

Precipitation.. Rainfall overnight ranged between 15-30mms across the island as expected. Showers expected for most of today.  Dry day tomorrow through Tuesday. Rain again on Wednesday and Thursday. Long range for Friday and into next weekend is not very clear at this point so will wait to see what tomorrow’s data shows.

Temperatures.. Say good bye to the summer-like heat for awhile.. Temperatures will cool off today with the cold frontal passage and stay below normal until next weekend.

Wind.. Increasing northerly winds today, staying brisk tonight and tomorrow dropping off to light for Monday. Light-brisk NE winds then continue all next week.

Hazards.. Wet driving conditions in rain today then again beginning on Wednesday of next week.
