Monday, June 4th 6:35am.. A ridge of high pressure orienting north-south is currently cresting over the island. This feature gave clear skies and calm winds to the island over night and resulted in some record breaking low temperatures to the island by this morning. Here in central PEI, the temperatures dropped to -3. Skies will cloud over during the day today as an area of low pressure located off Cape Hatteras approaches. Rain will begin tonight as this system approaches and will track just south of NS during the day tomorrow with rain expected for most of the day. A second low pressure system will then track from the lower Great Lakes eastward off the coast vicinity Cape Cod late tomorrow night and again move just south of NS on Wednesday. Rain from this system is expected to stay confines to southern NS. Skies will then begin to clear later Wednesday as these systems pull away and high pressure builds in with sunshine continuing into Thursday. Skies once again cloud over later Thursday as a warm front approaches. The associated cold front sweeps across the island on Friday with another round of rain. At this point Saturday is looking sunny but clouds and possible showers for Sunday as another frontal system moves through.
Precipitation. Rain should begin after midnight tonight and continues though Tuesday into early Wednesday giving 10-15 mms. Dry for late Wednesday through Thursday. Showers again on Friday, dry on Saturday then showers for Sunday.
Temperatures.. Are expected to remain chilly for the next few days but looks like a return to normal begins on Thursday.
Wind.. Very light NW winds today becoming easterly tonight into tomorrow morning then shifting to northerly later tomorrow. Very light north winds into Wednesday morning shifting to SE for Thursday increasing to brisk southerlies for Friday. Westerlies behind the cold front on Saturday.
Hazards.. Frost this morning will dissipate as temps warm with the rising sun. Wet driving conditions in rain beginning tonight through tomorrow.
