Wednesday, July 4th 7:30am… Hot humid conditions remain in place over the Maritimes today with high pressure overhead. A weak cold front passed through the region overnight last night which may give a bit of relief from yesterday’s humid conditions. The front moves back north as a warm front tonight which may bring in some cloud and showers/thundershowers over night tonight. The humidity returns tomorrow with sunshine but afternoon clouds may develop with chance of showers/thundershowers. Focus then shifts to Friday with the approach of a strong cold front. There timing of thew frontal passage will determine the severity of any thunderstorms. Right now the front is expected to sweep across the island early-mid evening which is a prime time for severe weather. Very heavy showers in strong thunderstorms is a good possibility. The front will bring an end to this round of heat and humdity with cooler fresher air expected for the weekend. This area of high pressure shifts east on Monday allowing for a SW flow to redevelop marking the return of the warm humid weather. A tropical low pressure system is expected to develop SE of Cape Hatteras on Friday then track NE passing south of the Avalon Penn of Newfoundland Monday night into Tuesday morning. This system won’t effect the Maritimes as the cold front moving through on Friday will keep it well offshore east of NS. Another cold front moves across the region Monday night into Tuesday morning bringing another round of cloud and showers.
Precipitation.. Chance of showers overnight tonight with the warm front. Chance of afternoon/evening showers tomorrow. More organized showers on Friday with the cold frontal passage. Some of these could be heavy. A dry weekend into Monday followed by more showers Monday night into Tuesday.
Temperatures.. The heat continues today and tomorrow especially inland away from the coast where sea breezes will keep temps cooler. Not as hot on Friday due cloud cover and rain. Cooler more comfortable air for the weekend. Monday looks to be warm and muggy again but short lived as another cold frontal passage Monday night will change the airmass again.
Wind.. Light westerlies now but becoming variable today with onshore sea breezes developing along the coast. Light SW winds tomorrow increasing to brisk on Friday ahead of the front. These winds then shift to the W-NW later Friday marking the cold frontal passage. Light-brisk W-NW winds expected on the weekend shifting back to the SW on Monday.
Thunderstorms.. Chance tonight then again tomorrow afternoon/evening. Better chance of storms for everyone later Friday with the approaching cold front. These storms on Friday could be strong/severe.
Hazards.. Heat and humidity next couple days.. Chance of thunderstorms tonight, tomorrow afternoon/evening then again on Friday. Heavy downpours possible on Friday.
