Friday, July 6th 6:40am.. A strong cold front oriented NE-SW is currently located along the St Lawrence River Valley and will move east today sweeping across the island later today. This front will bring showers at times heavy along with isolated thundershowers. This front also marks the end of the heat and humidity over the past week. Cooler fresher air will usher in behind the front for Saturday as high pressure builds in. An upper level disturbance races the island Saturday night may bring some cloud and an isolated shower. A weak cold front expected to move through on Monday night with chance of a shower. This front dissipates but the remaining trough of low pressure then hangs around over the Maritimes through the remainder of the period bringing some unsettled conditions bit no real significant weather expected. Interesting to note, a tropical system is expected to develop off North Carolina tomorrow. This system is stationary for a couple days while intensifying then begins to move NE late Tuesday approaching NS on Friday. Way too early for details but this system will need to be monitored. Stay tuned !
Precipitation.. Showers have already moved into northwestern NB and will begin to spread into western PEI about mid morning. These showers will then continue to move across the remainder of the island over through noon or early afternoon. The showers will be heavy at times with local downpours giving 10mms but locally 25 in the heaviest rain. The rain ends from west to east through the evening towards midnight. Dry for the weekend but could be a stray shower Saturday night with that upper air disturbance. Could be a shower later Monday associated the weakening cold front. Can’t rule out a shower or two through mid week as the trough of low pressure stalls over the region. Need to watch that tropical system as it comes up the coast mid/late week.
Temperatures.. Say good bye to the heat and humidity it least for now.. The approaching cold front will change the air… Cooler air expected for Saturday then things begin to warm up again for Sunday and Monday. The weak cold front later Monday changes the air again this cooler conditions are expected for Tuesday through Thursday.
Wind.. Brisk SW winds today will shift to W-NW this evening with the cold frontal passage then diminish to light NW for tomorrow. Winds shift to the SW for Sunday and Monday. Light and variable winds for Tuesday through Thursday.
Thunderstorms.. Risk of storms this afternoon/evening.
CBMF.. Looking good. Showers end tonight then sunny conditions expected for the weekend. Light NW winds on Saturday followed by SW winds on Sunday. Saturday will be quite comfortable even a bit coolish with winds off the water. Sunday warmer.
Hazards... Wet driving conditions beginning near noon in showers. Possible heavy downpours leading to water ponding on roads. Could be some lightning around as well with associated thundershowers.
