Cool conditions expected across PEI today

Thursday, July 12th 6:40am.. Tropical Storm Chris is currently located about 400 kms SE of Halifax and racing NE towards the Avalon Penn of Newfoundland. The cloud shield associated will continue to spread across PEI today.  High pressure will build back in over the region for tomorrow and Saturday with sunshine. A weak frontal system will begin to approach from the NW later Saturday and stall over the region for Sunday. Clouds and slight chance of a showers will accompany this feature. Need to watch a potential weak tropical system moving north from the Bermuda area late Saturday as well. This system cold bring some tropical moisture into the Maritimes as it interacts with that stalled frontal system for Sunday. Will need to watch this over the next day or so to see how the models handle it. High pressure returns for Monday and Tuesday with sunshine followed by a strong  frontal system for Wednesday.

Precipitation.. Chance of a shower Saturday nigh into Sunday associated with that weak cold front. Need to watch that tropical moisture later Sunday.  Dry for Monday and Tuesday. Rain for later Wednesday with the strong cold front.

Temperatures.. Below normal today and tomorrow. Normal weekend then above normal conditions begin on Monday (hot and muggy).

Wind.. Light-brisk north winds today diminishing to very light east winds on Friday then light southerlies for the weekend through middle of next week.

Thunderstorms.. Looks like a chance of storms over the weekend. Better chance on Wednesday.

Tropical Storms..  T.S Chris is current;y passing east of NS and will continue to move NE passing over the southeastern tip Newfoundland this evening. The storm was downgraded to a tropical storm as it moved north over the cooler waters and is now beginning to transition into an extra-tropical storm as it passes by Sable Island. Rain may scrape the eastern coast of NS today. Strong surf also expected along the coast and offshore waters. The only effects for PEI will be the cloud shield and a brisk NNE wind across eastern Kings county today.

Hazards.. Chance of a shower and possible lightning over the weekend.
