Wednesday, August 15th 6:45am.. A few interesting things in the surface analysis this morning. First a band of slow moving thunderstorms is tracking across northern NB this morning ans has prompted severe thunderstorms watches and warnings for that part of the region. Secondly, a weak area of low pressure that was stalled in the Cape Cod area past few days has begun to drift north and is now located in central Maine. This feature will move across the Maritimes today giving cloud showers and risk of thundershowers. Finally, a cold front oriented NE-SW currently extends from Labrador though to the central Great Lakes. This front is moving eastward and will sweep across the island near noon tomorrow. Cloud and showers/thundershowers will accompany this feature as well. Cooler air will then invade the region behind this cold front but unstable conditions will result in cloud and showers continue into the evening and overnight hours. Friday is shaping up to be a nice day under high pressure with sunshine and light winds. Saturday is looking cloudy and quite wet as an area of low pressure moves eastward put of the Great Lakes. The exact track of this system is not clear yet but appears there is a potential for a significant rain event. High pressure returns for Sunday and Monday with sunshine. Long range models are trying to develop an ocean low south of NS on Tuesday but remain sketchy at this point.
Precipitation.. Chance of showers now through noon tomorrow. with the passage of that weak low and cold front. Showers may linger into Thursday evening. Dry for Friday then chance of a significant rain event in Saturday. Dry for Sunday and Monday. Watching for possible rain on Tuesday.
Temperatures.. Warm and muggy today. Bit cooler tomorrow but still muggy. Friday is looking fantastic with seasonal temps sunshine and low humidities. Saturday will feel quite cool with rainfall and brisk north winds. At or slightly below normal conditions continue on Sunday/Monday.
Wind.. Light-brisk SW winds shifting to northerly near noon tomorrow which then continue into Friday. Winds drop off to calm Friday evening the become light southerly Friday night. Winds then shift to NE on Saturday and Sunday.
Thunderstorms.. Chance of storms today through tomorrow.
Hazards.. Wet driving conditions in any rain. Some of these showers could be locally heavy and the slow forward speed of these showers could lead to local heavy amounts. Risk of lightning in any of these slow moving storms today and tomorrow. Elevated heat and humidities today.
