The warm and muggies return to PEI..

Friday, August 24th 7:45am.. A large area of high pressure will dominate the Maritmes today and tomorrow with sunshine and light winds. Clouds will begin to spread across the region on Sunday as a warm front lifts north across the Maritmes. A warm muggy airmass will invade behind this front for Monday and Tuesday with generally cloudy skies and slight chance of a shower. A more organized band of showers/thundershowers will accompany a cold front which is expected to sweep across the island Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. This front will also bring an end to the heat with much cooler temps expected Thursday. The front is expected to stall in an east-west fashion just south of the Maritmes and depending on how close it stays then cloud and chance of showers will continue into the weekend. Will have a better look at this over the next few days..

Precipitation.. Dry conditions expected today through Monday. Introduce a chance of a shower on Tuesday. Better chance of showers Wednesday night as the potent cold front approaches. Chance of showers then for the remainder of Thursday Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures.. The heat will continue today through Wednesday with above normal temps. Cooler more seasonal air will then spread across the Maritmes behind the cold front early Thursday.

Wind.. Persistent light-brisk SW wind will continue today through Wednesday shifting to northerly Wednesday night/early Thursday morning behind the cold front.

Summerside Airshow this weekend.. Looks great. Mainly clear skies on Saturday, more cloud on Sunday but looks to be the high stuff which should not really impact activities. Light-brisk SW winds and afternoon temps in the mid 20’s. Looks like RWY24 will be the preferred runway with aircraft approaching and landing from over the Bay while departing aircraft will be taking off over the #2 highway heading towards Miscouche.

Thunderstorms.. Next chance appears to be Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hazards.. Quiet next few days. Humidex values will be running in the low 30’s through Wednesday making outdoor activities uncomfortable.

Watches/warnings.. None for PEI at this time.
