Tuesday, September 11th 8:15am.. High pressure moved across the island yesterday and ins now located east of NS. Clouds have since spread across the region as a trough of low pressure ( remnants of Gorden) a[[roach from the west. This system will cross the Martitimes late today/tonight with rain at times heavy. High pressure then builds back in over the region and dominates the region later Wednesday through Saturday with sunshine and above normal temperatures. A weak cold front then moves south across the island on Sunday with some cloud and slight chance of a shower. Difficult to go much beyond Sunday at this point until we get a better idea of what hurricane will be doing as she begins to move.
Precipitation.. Showers should begin mid afternoon today becoming periods of rain at times heavy tonight tapering back to showers before dawn tomorrow then ending by noon. Models are tracking the highest amounts of rain across central NB then across northern NS. Any northward shift will bring those heavy amounts across PEI. Right now looking at 15-30mms with the lowest amounts over northern Prince county (Tignish area) and highest amounts across southern Kings (Orwell through Montague). Dry conditions then expected later Wednesday through Saturday. Slight chance of a shower on Sunday.
Temperatures.. At or above normal today through Monday.
Wind.. Light-brisk South winds today and tonight diminishing and shifting to light northerlies tomorrow. Very light/calm winds on Thursday and Friday. Light-brisk SW winds on Saturday becoming light northerlies on Sunday behind the cold front.
Tropical systems.. The remnants if Gorden will cross the Maritimes later today/tonight with rain at times heavy. Major Hurricane Florence is located south of Bermuda and moving WNW. This storm is expected to make landfall along the coast of NC Thursday night then stall or meander just inland for a couple days first causing widespread damage from wind and storm surge followed by inland freshwater flooding from rains. A very dangerous situation for all from SC through Virginia.
Hazards.. Wet driving conditions today and tonight.
