Clearing expected later today across PEI..

Wednesday, September 12th, 6:40am.. An area of low pressure (Remnants of tropical system Gorden”) crossed the Maritimes overnight bringing rain at times heavy and a few thunderstorms. This system is now located across the eastern Gulf and continues to move away to the NE. Skies will clear later today as a high pressure system currently located in southern Quebec builds in. This system will dominate the weather through Saturday with mostly sunny and warm weather. Some clouds may develop on Sunday as a weak trough of low pressure drops down from the north with slight chance of a shower. High pressure returns for Monday with sunshine then very difficult to go much beyond that as the remnants of hurricane Florence will be beginning to move along the US eastern seaboard and right now is is unclear what will happen. Stay tuned..

Precipitation… A few left over showers this morning but the bulk of the rain has moved east.. Dry conditions later today through at least Monday bit there is a slight chance of a shower on Sunday as that weak trough drops through.

Temperatures.. At or above normal today through Monday..

Wind.. Light northerlies today, calm tonight, light westerlies tomorrow, calm/very light on Friday, light-brisk SW winds on Saturday  shifting to northerlies on Sunday behind the trough then back to brisk SW for Monday and Tuesday.

Tropical systems.. The remnants of Gorden crossed the island overnight with rain and a few rumbles of thunder. Hurricane Florence is a major CAT 3 hurricane located about 900 kms SE of NC and is moving WNW. The hurricane is expected to impact the coast vicinity the NC/SC borders Thursday night/Friday morning then stall along the coast or just inland for a couple days. This situation will be disastrous for the region with wind/storm surge and fresh water flooding.
