Thursday, October 11th 7:00am.. A frontal boundary stretching from the Great Lakes eastward across PEI is maintaining cloud and a few showers across the region this morning. The showers will become periods of rain at times heavy later today as a weak area of low pressure develops on the front near the coast of Maine. The heaviest rains are expected across southern NS. This low pressure will then track NE across the Maritimes overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. By this time the front will have moved east and should be in a NE-SW line just off the coast of NS. The remnants of Tropical storm Micheal will now be just off the coast of the US near NYC and will track NE along the frontal boundary passing SE of NS Friday evening. Some clearing takes place later Friday night as these system pulls away but more cloud and chance of a shower expected Saturday evening as a weak upper air disturbance moves through. Sunday is looking sunny as high pressure passes by to our south. A frontal system brings cloud and rain across the Maritimes for later Monday into Tuesday. The long range outlook past Tuesday is very unclear with lots pf spread among the various models so will need to wait for some agreement.
Precipitation.. Showers today becoming periods of rain at times heavy this afternoon then back to showers tomorrow morning then ending late afternoon. Rainfall amounts of 30 mms possible. Few showers on Saturday. Dry on Sunday more showers on Monday into Tuesday.
Temperatures.. Cool today, warm tomorrow, below normal begins Saturday.
Wind.. Light northerly now will become easterly this afternoon then increase to brisk SE after midnight tonight and continue into tomorrow. Winds will then shift to the NW late tomorrow afternoon with the passage of the cold front. Light-brisk W-NW winds then expected through Monday.
Hazards.. Wet driving condition sin rain over the next few days. Heavy rain later today into tonight.
Watches/warnings.. None for PEI at this time but special weather statements are in effect just across the Strait in NB and NS for possible significant rain later today through tomorrow.
