Strong west winds slowly diminishing across PEI today..

Sunday, November 4th 7:45am.. That was quite a blow last night. Got several trees down in my area and would image that is the scene all across PEI today. My weather station recorded wind gusts of 85 KMH here in Elmwood just after midnight last night and my wind vane is actually sheltered to the south winds by a line of trees which as already mentioned is one less now. NB and NS also got hit hard with wind with extensive power outages being reported there. The storm responsible for this developed along the eastern Seaboard yesterday morning and rapidly intensified as it moved NE towards the Maritimes. The  storm then turned north  up through Maine into western NB near Edmunston yesterday mid evening. The storm then continued to intensify and track NNE across Anticosti Island and is now located n southern Labrador. The winds from this system peaked just after midnight last night across PEI and are now slowly diminishing as the storm continues to pull away.  High pressure will now begin to build in from the west and should crest over the island near noon tomorrow bringing clearing skies today. Winds will diminish to calm late tonight and remain calm through the morning tomorrow. Another strong area of low pressure will track northeastward tough the Great Lakes on Tuesday. The associated frontal systems will sweep across the Maritimes bringing another round of wet weather to the island for Tuesday and Wednesday. Models are hinting at another wind and rain event here so will need to watch this for mid week. Weak high pressure build sin for Thursday and Friday with some sunshine. Another weather disturbance is looking to bring more cloud and rain for Saturday. Things then turn quite cool for Sunday and Monday with high pressure in control. Looking rather interesting on Tuesday as long range models are hinting at a storm system staying off the east coast passing south of the region pointing at maybe our first snow event of the year. This will need to be watched as well

Precipitation.. Dry today and tomorrow. Rain begins near dawn on Tuesday becoming heavy Tuesday night ending on Wednesday afternoon. Models are hinting at another 20-30 mms right now but that can change over then next day or so as we get a better handle on it. Dry Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon.  Rain Friday night in to Saturday afternoon. Sunday and Monday dry but could be a few flurries kicking around. Possible snow on Tuesday.

Temperatures.. Generally at or above normal until Saturday of next week. Cool down to below normal on Sunday which then continues thorough the first few days of the following week.

Wind… Strong west winds will slowly diminish through the day today dropping off to calm by dawn tomorrow morning then remaining cam til about noon. Winds then shift to light SE through the afternoon tomorrow increasing to brisk SE on Tuesday then brisk-strong SW-W on Wednesday. Brisk-strong westerly on Thursday diminishing to light on Friday.

Hazards.. Strong west winds slowly diminishing will continue to give power issues especially up west along west facing coasts and higher exposed terrain. Bridge restrictions still in place until winds drop off. Caution for wet leaf litter on roads which makes for hazardous driving.. No braking or loss of steering.

Watches/warnings.. Wind warning remains in place across PEI this morning.
