Thursday, January 3rd 6:45am… A north-south ridge of high pressure is currently crossing the Maritimes with generally clear skies and light winds. Clouds will spread across the region later this morning ahead of an approaching trough of low pressure with some flurries developing this afternoon noon. Flurries continue tomorrow as the trough slowly moves through. High pressure returns for Saturday with some sunshine but won’t least long as another low pressure system developed off the US mid Atlantic coast. The exact track this system takes is still not clear but is expected to remain south of NS Saturday night with snow developing Sunday as the storm intensifies east of NS. Cold high pressure returns for Monday into Tuesday morning. Another storm system is expected to develop in the Gulf of Maine Tuesday afternoon with a potential significant snow event. High pressure in control for Wednesday and Thursday. So a bit of a stormy pattern ahead.
Precipitation.. Flurries or periods of light sow from noon today through tomorrow evening giving 5 cms. Dry on Saturday. Snow again Sunday giving another 5-10 cms. Dru MOnday morning through Tuesday afternoon. Potential snow event begins Tuesday afternoon ending Wednesday afternoon.
Temperatures.. The core of the cold air is now passing through and temps will begin to rise this morning. Normal Friday through Sunday. Cold again for Monday and Tuesday. Normal for Wednesday and Thursday.
Wind.. Light south winds today and tomorrow shifting to westerly for Saturday then easterly on Sunday. Brisk-strong NW winds on Monday.
Hazards.. Cold this morning… light snow giving 5 cms this afternoon through Friday. Bit more snow on Sunday.
