Friday, January 4th 7:15am… A warm front will cross the island today with some cloud and light snow. A weak ridge of high pressure then moves across the region tomorrow with some sunshine and much milder conditions. Things then start to get interesting.. Low pressure will develop off the US Mid Atlantic coast vicinity NJ. This system then intensifies as it turns NE passing near Sable Island noon Sunday bringing a wintery mix of rain and snow as well as wind. The forecast problem lies with where the rain-snow line will be. Western PEI being further away will be slightly cooler thus a snow event is expected there while central and eastern PEI should get a little warmer resulting in a mostly rain. All areas will transition back to snow Sunday afternoon as the storm pulls away and colder air filters back in. Any shift in track either east or west will shift this rain-snow line accordingly so this system is still a work in progress. High pressure builds back in for Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is shaping up to be another interesting day as another low pressure system develops near Cape Cod Tuesday night. This new system then tracks very slowly NE into the Bay of Fundy on Wednesday then into Cape Breton on Thursday. This system is still too far out for details but looks like another wintery mix of rain and snow depending on location with rain east and snow west. Again rack will be important here.
