Monday, December 2nd 6:00am… A n arrow ridge of high pressure oriented east-west this morning is giving clear skies and calm winds to the island now. An area of lows pressure developed along the Delmarva coast late last night and is now located just off Cape Cod. This system is slowly tracking NE and is expected to along the coast of NS Tuesday evening then into Newfoundland Wednesday morning bring8ing an wintery mix of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and rain to the Maritimes with snow expected over northern NB and rain across NS and PEI. A band on ice pellets and freezing rain and rain across southern NB. Cooler air floods in behind this system on Wednesday changing any left over precip to flurries before ending by noon. Another low pressure system passing by east of NS on Thursday may give the island a glancing blow of snow but track still unclear. This one will need to be watched for any westward shift in track. A ridge of high pressure moves through on Friday with some sunshine followed by another low pressure system on Saturday with more snow. Again, will need to watch this system in upcoming posts.Sunshine expected on Sunday with high pressure moving through.
Precipitation… Snow begins just after midnight tonight across PEI changing to rain near dawn Tuesday. Cold linger as snow a bit longer up west. Rain transitions back to snow late Tuesday night ending Wednesday afternoon. Rainfall amounts of 10-15 mms. West Prince could see 5-10 cms snow. Another round of snow for Thursday and Saturday. Too early for amounts in either case as the storm track and intensities still unclear.
Temperatures… Near normal this period. No cold arctic air in sight, in fact see a warm up beginning of next week.
Wind… Windy period of weather ahead with several systems going through.
Hazards… Snow tonight, Rain tomorrow then back to snow Wednesday morning will give wet driving conditions. Up west could see 5-10 cms snow late tonight into noon tomorrow.
