Moderating temps expected across PEI today/tonight.

Saturday, Feb 15th 8:45am… A large area of high pressure is current;y drifting eastward and will pass south of NS later today. Sunshine will accompany this feature. Clouds will begin to invade later today ahead of a trough of low pressure with some light snow expected tomorrow morning. Skies briefly clear tomorrow afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front which should sweep across the island just before noon on Monday with more flurrie activity. High pressure return for Monday night into Tuesday morning with some clear skies. Clouds will then be on the increase as a large area of low pressure racks NE through Quebec. There are signs that a secondary low pressure system will develop in the Gulf of Maine early Wednesday morning which will make it difficult to determine the rain snow line. At any rate, this system moves east Wednesday afternoon with clearing skies. Mix of sun and cloud for Thursday and Friday with high pressure to the west.

Precipitation… Some light snow tomorrow morning for a few hours giving 1-2 cms. Another round of flurries Monday afternoon. Snow begins Suppertime Tuesday changing to rain/freezing rain for a few hours Wednesday morning especially down east. Up west could stay all snow. All ends by noon Wednesday. Too early for amounts as we still don’t know if that secondary low pressure will develop. Right now looking at 10 cms snow Tuesday night

Temperatures… The coldest morning so far with inland temps in the -22/-23 range. Bit warmer along the coast where there is some open water. Temps will moderate today and tonight becoming slightly above normal for tomorrow and Monday. Brief cool down Monday night into Tuesday morning then another brief warm-up Tuesday night into Wednesday morning followed by a couple of cold days on Thursday and Friday.

Wind… Light-brisk SW winds today and tomorrow diminishing to light on Monday and shifting to NW.

Hazards… Cold temps this morning. Light coating snow tomorrow.

Watches/warnings… None for PEI at this time.
