Rain expected later today across PEI.

Saturday, June 15th 6:45am… A cold front oriented NNE-SSW is currently located just west of PEI and is slowly moving east accompanied by clouds and a few showers. A wind shift to the north will mark the frontal passage. We also have an area of low pressure with tropical connections located just north of Bermuda. This system is moving NNE and is expected to pass just east of Cape Breton this evening. Rain from this system will spread across PEI this afternoon with eastern areas getting the highest amounts  closer to the storm track. Skies clear after midnight tonight as both these systems pull away to the east leading to a sunny but cool Sunday as an area of high pressure located in Ontario begins to build in.  Skies cloud over again late tomorrow night ahead of a warm front approaching from the west but not expecting any rain. This warm front will mark arrival of warm and humid air which will engulf the Maritimes though mid week with temps approaching 30. A cold front begins to drop south Thursday afternoon which may trigger some showers and thundershowers. Will need to watch for any strong/severe thunderstorms as this frontal passage will occur during the hottest part of the day. The front will be oriented east-west across southern NS on Friday and Saturday so we may still be under the influence of the cloud and showers but temps will be cooler, being on the north side.

Precipitation… Few showers this morning becoming periods of rain at times heavy ending by midnight. Rainfall amounts of 2-5 mms for up west, 5-10 across Charlottetown and maybe as high as 15-20 across eastern Kings. Heavy showers possible later Thursday associated with that cold font.

Temperatures… Cool weekend ahead but temps will moderate on Monday setting the stage for a hot and humid Wednesday and Thursday. The cold frontal passage Thursday afternoon will put us back on the cool side.

Wind… Light SW-W winds now will shift to the NW-N this afternoon marking the frontal passage. Brisk NW-N winds tomorrow shifting to brisk SW on Monday which then continues into Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hazards… Wet driving conditions in rain today.

Watches/Warnings… None for PEI at this time but will need to keep an eye on Thursday for possible heavy/severe thunderstorms.
