Tuesday, June 18th 5:30am… A mix of sun and cloud expected today as an area of high pressure stalls just SE of NS. This will allow a surge of very warm and humid air to flow northward into the Maritimes on a brisk SW wind. A few thunderstorms may develop across inland regions of NS and NB which may then move into parts of PEI later this afternoon and evening. Otherwise sunny warm humid conditions. A cold front will begin to approach from the NW later Thursday which will bring some showers and thundershowers to PEI with frontal passage occurring sometime in the evening and will be marked by a wind shift to the NW-N. Showers may linger into Friday morning as the front is slow to move away to the south but sunshine is expected during the day along with cooler temperatures. Sunshine continues into Saturday and early Sunday as high pressure dominates to the north but later Sunday the clouds return as that front lifts back to the north as a warm front. Rain expected by midnight Sunday night which then continues into Monday.
Precipitation… Slight chance of a shower or thundershower later today which depends on how much activity develops in the mainland. Showers and thundershowers develop Thursday afternoon ending Friday morning associated with that cold front. Showers begin again Sunday evening ending Monday afternoon associated with the warm front.
Temperatures… 3 days of hot and humid conditions begin today with the core of the heat expected tomorrow and Thursday with a good chance of new high temperature records set. Cools down on Frday but still remains above normal.
Wind… Light-brisk SW flow next few days with a shift to the NW-N expected later Thursday in the wake of the cold frontal passage. Light NW winds on Friday and Saturday.
Hazards… Hot and humid conditions especially tomorrow and Thursday will be hazardous for those with outdoor activities. Stay hydrated.
Watches/Warnings… None for PEI at this time but heat warnings have been issued for all of NB and southwestern NS.
