Friday, June 21st, 6:00am… A cold front slowly moved south across PEI during the overnight hours last night and it now lies basically in a east-west line across southern NS. This feature will continue to slowly drop south today allowing high pressure to build in resulting in a mainly sunny day today accompanied by lower temperatures and humidity. High cloudiness expected tomorrow as that front slowly begins to reverse direction and lift back to the north as a warm front with rain spreading back across PEI Sunday afternoon. The rain will become heavy at times Sunday night as low pressure ripples eastward along the front. Monday and Tuesday are looking like an all day rain event now with that area of low pressure passing through the Maritimes. May finally see some sunshine on Wednesday but still a chance of showers as that system pulls away to the east. Another cold front approaches on Thursday with a return to clouds and rain.
Precipitation… Looks like a wet period of weather ahead for PEI. Rain begins Sunday afternoon becoming heavy Sunday night. Rain tapers to a few showers on Monday. Rain at times heavy on Tuesday as that area of low pressure ripples through. Showers Wednesday. Rain returns again later Thursday with that cold front approaching. Early rainfall estimates of 20 mms by Monday morning and 40-50 by Wednesday morning.
Temperatures…This first round of heat and humidity is over. Temps should be near normal this period with lots of cloud cover preventing things from getting too warm.
Wind… Charts are showing a rather weak pressure gradient across the Maritimes this period so not expecting any wind events. Direction will be quite variable as the various systems move through.
Hazards… Wet driving conditions in rain beginning Sunday evening.
