More rain expected today across PEI.

Thursday, June 27th 6:45am… A frontal boundary located in a NE-SW fashion stretches from Labrador to Cape Cod this morning. An area of low pressure on the frontal boundary is located in Maine and is rippling NE along the frontal boundary and should pass over western PEI near noon today. The cold front which extends back to the SW from the low pressure system will be slow to move through and is now expected to slowly cross PEI tomorrow morning. Rain at times heavy accompanied by a few rumbles of thunder will begin this morning as this mess approaches. Brisk SW winds out ahead of this feature will shift to the N-NE tomorrow morning once the cold frontal passage occurs. Skies should also begin to clear tomorrow morning in the wake of this front with high pressure passing by to the south.  Saturday should be sunny for most of the day but clouds will begin to spread over the island ahead of a warm front approaching from the SW. Rain begins Sunday morning as the accompanying cold front approaches from the west with frontal passage in the evening. This front then stalls in a NE-SW fashion right along the coast of NS for a few days. PEI will be caught between the rain associated with the front and sunshine to the west associated with a large area of high pressure centered in Quebec. Too early to tell which system wins the battle here.

Precipitation… Rain at times heavy begins mid morning today tapering to showers this evening then ending tomorrow morning giving another 15-30 mms. The heavier amounts under thundershowers.  Rain begins again Sunday morning ending in the evening. The tricky part here is where that front stalls. We could see rain extending into Monday and Tuesday next week especially across eastern PEI if that front stalls out closer to the island. will need to wait and see.

Temperatures… A few degrees either side of normal this period. No real heat.

Wind… Brisk SW winds today diminish later today then shift to the NW-N tomorrow. Winds then shift back to light SW on Saturday before increasing to brisk on Sunday. Winds then shift back to the north for Monday in the wake of the cold frontal passage.

Hazards… Wet driving conditions in rain today. Watch for heavier showers which will cause water to pond on roads. Chance of lightning today especially under heavier down pours. Breezy on the water today as well especially near noon.

Watches/Warnings… None for PEI at this time.
