Sunny mild conditions expected today across PEI.

Tuesday, April 23rd, 6:30am… Mainly sunny skies are expected today across PEI associated with an area of high pressure crossing the Maritimes. Some high cloudiness may spread across the island later today as an area of low pressure approaches from the south. These clouds thicken up during the overnight hours with a chance of rain scraping eastern Kings county as that area of low pressure moves past Cape Breton. A second trough of low pressure will also be approaching from the west and is expected to spread more showers across the island beginning Wednesday evening. The temperatures will be cooling off tomorrow night so there is a chance that any left over showers will change over to snow before ending by noon Thursday. The latest model guidance has backed off on this since yesterday’s data and is now hinting at a weaker system. Skies clear Thursday afternoon as an area of high pressure approaches. This feature then dominates the Maritimes for the weekend with lots of sunshine although a weakening warm front may bring some cloudy periods to the island on Sunday. Unsettled conditions to start next week as another frontal system approaches from the west.

Precipitation… Chance of showers for eastern Kings tomorrow morning followed by a better chance of showers for everyone Wednesday evening. The trend is now weakening so if these showers linger into Wednesday night then they will most likely change to flurries by dawn Thursday morning before ending by noon. Unsettled weather to start next week. Details as we get closer.

Temperatures… Slightly above normal today then at or below normal through the weekend. Thursday will be the coolest day. A warming trend for the start of next week.

Wind… Light-brisk SE winds today diminishing to light tomorrow then brisk-strong westerlies on Thursday. diminishing to light NW on Friday. Very light-calm winds for the weekend.

Hazards… Wet driving conditions in any rain tomorrow. Strong west winds on Thursday will result in hazardous conditions on the water for boaters.

Watches/Warnings… None for PEI at this time.
