Cloud and chance of showers today and tomorrow across PEI..

Friday, Sept 1st 8:50am.. A change in the air… A cold front swept eastward across the island yesterday evening and brought a brief period of showers. The big change was the drop in temperature. This cool air is quite unstable resulting in cloud and showers. Over the warm waters of the Gulf/Strait there is also a risk of waterspouts. High pressure will begin to slide south of NS on Saturday night which should allow for a more SW flow of warmer air for Sunday. Clouds will begin to spread across the island duringĀ  the day on Sunday in advance of the next low pressure system from the SW. This system, which is actually the remnants of Harvery, is expected to pass through northern NB Monday morning then continued into the northern Gulf later in the day. Some rain and wind from this system expected Sunday night into Monday morning. Skies clear late on Monday but then cloud up again later Tuesday as a cold front approaches from the west. This front is then expected to stall across the region on Wednesday then linger though the weekend. Several disturbances will then ripple eastward alongĀ  this stalled frontal boundary setting the stage for a cloudy wet few days leading into the weekend.

Precipitation.. Chance of showers today tonight and tomorrow. Some of these showers could be locally heavy. There is also a chance of small hail or ice pellets. Sunday should be dry then more showers develop ahead of “Harvey” before dawn on Monday ending near noon. The heaviest rains should fall up west closer to the low. Tuesday looks dry then showers develop on Wednesday and continue through Saturday.

Temperatures.. Cooler conditions expected today and tomorrow. Back to normal on Sunday.

Wind.. Light-brisk westerlies today, NW for tomorrow dropping off to calm tomorrow night then southwesterlies develop on Sunday.

Thunderstorms.. Can’t rule out a rumble today tonight or tomorrow associated with the cloud build-ups.

Tropics.. The Remnants of “Harvey” should pass across northern NB on Monday with some rain and gusty winds. Major Hurricane is churning in the eastern Tropical Atlantic as is moving westward. This system is expected to approach the Leeward island in about 6-7 days. Way to early to go into details after that.

Hazards... Wet driving conditions in any rain today through tomorrow. There is also a risk of waterspouts over the waters of the Strait/Gulf today and tomorrow.

Watches/warnings... None for PEI at this time.
