Sunny warm conditions expected across PEI today..

Saturday, September 23rd 9:40am.. Welcome to fall !!. The fall equinox occurred yesterday afternoon at 5:02pm across PEI as we say goodbye to summer 2017.

A ridge of high pressure stretching east-west across the Maritimes will continues to give sunshine to the region for today and tomorrow along with above normal temperatures. Clouds will begin to roll in late tomorrow as a cold front approaches from the north with some showers possible late. This front is then expected to stall or drift north and south over the Maritimes for an extended period giving unsettled weather with clouds and chance of showers throughout. Temperatures and wind direction will depend on where the front lies. South of the front expect southerly flow with warmer muggy conditions while north of the front will see a northerly flow and cooler seasonal temps. The long range models have the front finally moving through on Friday but by the the remnants of Hurricane Marie will be coming up the coast and much uncertainty exists as to how close to the Maritimes it will pass but looks like some rain associated with Marie will spread across the region.

Precipitation…. Chance of showers beginning later Sunday and basically continues through Thursday. More significant rain associated may spread across the region later Thursday and continue through Friday. This could be significant. Looks like dryer weather behind Marie for the weekend.

Temperatures.. Warm and muggy today and tomorrow. Next week will be governed by where the front actually lies. Warmer to the south, seasonal to it’s north and that front will be located east-west across the region.  Marked cooler temps in store for next weekend as the front and the Hurricane finally clear the area.

Wind.. SW winds today into tomorrow then a shift to the north on Monday expected as the front drops south of the island, but these winds will shift back and forth from north to south as the front shifts north and south of the island.  A more pronounced NW flow on the weekend as these systems finally clear the area.

Potato harvest.. As mentioned above.. Dry conditions today and first half of tomorrow. Chance of showers begins later tomorrow and continues through Thursday. Not expecting much in the way of amounts  but enough to keep the dust down. A more significant dumping of rain possible later Thursday into Friday as some tropical moisture from the Remnants of Hurricane Marie possibly spread across the island but that is uncertain at this time. Dry cooler weather for next weekend.

Hazards.. Nil in the short term.
